New Azure Service has been released:
Storage Discovery - A step forward towards data transparency in your cloud environment

Just two months after its public preview, Azure Storage Discovery has already been released as Generally Available (GA).
This new service is designed to help organizations better understand, manage, and optimize their storage landscape - especially in large and complex cloud environments.
Top-4 Features are:
Unified visibility across all storage accounts: Gain a single, consolidated view of Blob and Data Lake resources across subscriptions, regions, and resource groups.
Prebuilt interactive reports: Explore capacity trends, transaction volumes, security settings, and configuration insights through ready-to-use dashboards.
Copilot integration: No need for KQL anymore, simply ask natural-language questions like “Which regions saw the highest storage growth?” and get instant visual insights.
Historical trend analysis: Access up to 18 months of historical data for long-term optimization, forecasting, and cost management.
However, there are still a few limitations worth noting:
⚙️ Filtering is currently only available at the Storage Account level - container-level granularity is still missing, which may limit detailed analysis in complex setups.
📊 While ingress and egress tracking is supported, identifying where the traffic is going still requires integration with Azure Monitor / Log Analytics Workspace.
🔗 Some metrics (such as Access Percentage per Storage Tier) depend on external services like Blob Inventory, requiring additional configuration.
📉 Additionally, unlike in Power BI, you cannot build custom dashboards from multiple data sources - you can only adjust the predefined visual components provided by Azure.
But still - All in all, this release represents a decent step forward towards more transparency and better data management within Azure, and a promising foundation for what’s to come.
Feel free to reach out, if you’d like to learn how Azure Storage Discovery can enhance transparency in your environment, we’re happy to share insights.
